Join us this Thursday April 21st at 8pm for a night of educational videos from Think Vitamin that you choose! Interested in in any of the following topics: ACCESSIBILITY, CSS3, DESIGN, DJANGO, HTML & CSS, HTML5, JAVASCRIPT, JQUERY, NOSQL, PHP, RESPONSIVE WEB DESIGN, RUBY, RUBY ON RAILS, TOOLS, UX, VERSION CONTROL or WORDPRESS?

We’ll be watching videos in the order they are voted on. Beta Two Labs is having a huge Lan Party Saturday Feb 26th. The action starts at 3pm and goes until Midnight.

We recently became fans of the RepRap, specifically the “Mendel” version. We love the DIY appeal. Our Ponoko RepRap is currently being repaired and we’re preparing to print out 2 Mendels by the end of the year. After looking around for a RepRap meetup in NYC we did not find any, so we decided to start one! Join us every 3rd Sunday of the month at 2pm as we meet at Alpha One Labs to discuss and build our RepRaps. Signup to the google group here for more information:

Grand Opening – “Light Up The Night” Party

Come “Light Up The Night” at our Grand Opening Fund-Rasing Party. We’ll have a cash prize raffle (Based on number of foursquare check ins that night. $5 per ticket – winner announced at 12am), a silent auction with various items up for bids and games such as the plug and switch race, 4 player Dreamcast and more throughout the night.

Alpha One Labs hackerspace is a community-operated physical space, where people can meet and work on their projects.

Come dressed in your wearable lights and bring lasers! We have laser controlled lights! Â Beer and drinks are free. Â $10 donation at door.

TGMIBOEJ arrives

We actually received two boxes of electronics junk, Zanzibar Initiative and Samsung. Â The first one was hand delivered to the space by Rich Watts himself. Â We had a cup of coffee and chatted. Â This was the first time the space received a box and it was very exciting. When I opened the box I saw some plastic wire cover and a digital mirror clock. Â I was kind of in awe at the new stuff. Â I decided to go through it later. Â It turned out that the wire cover had a cool story behind it. Â Rich told me about a time when he was going over to the Blue Man Group’s old warehouse to pick up some leftover supplies. Â He found a bunch of cool stuff and two spools of this cool wire cover. Â I was about to keep it but decided to pass it on. Â The picture on the top left shows the boxes contents.

A few days later, I received a box from Scott. Â It came in a cool looking Samsung box. Â I opened it and the first thing that struck me was the spinning Woot lights. Â I unpacked a bit more and was wowed by the cool stuff that was in it. Â See the picture above.

On Tuesday of this week, we are going to throw a bit of a hackerspace twist to these two boxes (resulting in possibly a few more more). Â When we have our regular meeting at 7pm, we’ll have people bring in their own electronics junk from around the city. Â Then we’ll allÂ look through the boxes, swap out items and then send the boxes off. Â I am posting a picture below of a sneak peak of what is inside. Â Hopefully these boxes will change significantly before they are shipped off to make it a greatÂ surpriseÂ for whoever receives them.
